From the middle of the Atlantic

I am happy to say that I am finally getting my sea legs. I can walk around pretty normal now without looking completely drunk, but running is a different story. I had an interesting run yesterday on the treadmill in a hot oversized closet-like area in which I had to hold on to the treadmill with both hands the entire time to prevent me from falling off from to the rocking of the ship. Today the waves are pretty calm, but yesterday a wave caused everything to fly off the tables around my cabin for a surprise wakeup call at 6:30 am. A nap was definitely necessary after this incident, especially because we lose an hour almost every night on our way to Barcelona, so we only have 23-hour days.

My classes are going alright, but there is way too much reading which can be difficult considering I haven’t read an entire book in years. With only two hours of Internet time for the entire voyage, it’s pretty difficult to use spark notes or any other tools that allow me to not actually read. This also is a problem for putting pictures up on this blog because it takes up too many megabytes, but I’ll try to stop at an Internet cafĂ© in Barcelona to put some up.

Overall, I’m having a great time. The people, the food, the cabins, the starry nights, and even the treadmills have all been interesting and fun. My roommate is cool, and I guess I don’t mind that 75% of the students are girls, and I’d imagine that my one lesbian professor doesn’t mind it too much either. I will write again when I finally see land in Barcelona!
